The most commonly asked about Rules of Play for Minors, Majors, and Ponys
Coaching and General Game Rules
- 3 coaches on the bench MAXIMUM - no extra parents. No exceptions.
- All pitch counts and game scores should be sent to the appointed league official after the completion of each game.
- No child on bench that is not on the team.
- For Minors and Majors, regular season games are 6 innings. No games will go beyond 7 innings. For Ponys, regular season games are 7 innings and no game to go beyond 8 innings. There is no limit on innings in Playoff games.
- Managers are to stress to their players that they avoid any unnecessary collisions.
- The minimum number of players with which a team may begin a game is 8 players.
- MINORS ONLY - Five runs or five walks automatically terminate an inning except where an automatic double or automatic home run scores additional runs. This rule is waived in the last inning of a game. Hit by a pitch counts as a walk
Batting/Fielding Rules
- Every player present for a game shall be assigned a full batting slot
- Each available player must play 3 innings in the field. These may be played at any time: consecutively, alternately, or in any other manner deemed appropriate by the manager.
- For Minors and Majors, there is no on deck circle. No players outside the dugout who aren't in the field or batting.
- If a player throws the bat after a swing he will be given a warning on the first team offense. If any player on the same team throws a bat a second time the batter will automatically be ruled an out at the moment the bat is thrown and the ball will be ruled a dead ball.
- All batters must wear batters helmet.
Base Stealing Rules
- All base runners must continue to wear helmets.
- Head-first sliding is prohibited when seeking to advance from one base to another. Head-first sliding is allowed when a base runner is returning to a base to avoid being “picked-off” or in a run down only.
- MINORS and MAJORS: Runner may not leave their base until the ball cross home plate
- PONYS: Runners may steal at any time the ball is in play
- MINORS ONLY Base Stealing Rules:
- Only three bases may be stolen in an inning.
- No stealing of home base is allowed.
- Runners may not advance to any other base on an errant throw during a base stealing attempt.
- One base per player per pitch
- A stolen base does not count as a walk.
Pitching/Catching Rules
- Any pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches in a game may not go behind the plate to play catcher for the remainder of the day.
- Any catcher who catches 3 innings plus 1 batter in a game may not go in to pitch for the remainder of the day.
- No intentional walk shall be permitted.
